If you are thinking of volunteering as an individual or as a business, there are plenty of opportunities available in and around Sudbury, plus free training available for you through Sudbury Hive.
Many of the groups supporting the most vulnerable in our community rely on the kind donation of time from volunteers. Whether you and a group of colleagues are looking to volunteer for a one-off event or if you as an individual have some free time and would like to get out and about and meet new people, there are bound to be opportunities for you.
Before you volunteer
Decide on how much time you can offer – even half an hour can be of help!
Think about your skills and interests, and what you can offer- don’t discount your hobbies; any skill can be of help to a charity.
Make a list of what you want to gain from volunteering; is it something to add to your CV, or feeling more involved in your community? Make these your priority when searching for volunteering roles.
What to expect
The charity or not-for-profit organisation will usually give you a volunteer agreement that explains:
- the level of supervision and support you’ll get
- what training you’ll get
- whether you’re covered under the organisation’s employer or public liability insurance
- health and safety issues
- any expenses the organisation will cover, e.g. travel costs.
